A man in his 60s has been found dead after a domestic incident in Everton, Liverpool. Gillian Shaw, 61, has been charged with murder.

Neighbours living near the scene of a murder investigation have paid tribute to a 'lovely man' who was found fatally injured. Police were called to a domestic incident on Rothwell Street in Everton shortly after 4pm on Tuesday, December 31. Steven Cox was found with 'a number of serious injuries' at the scene. The 63-year-old subsequently died in hospital in the early hours of New Year's Day. Gillian Shaw has since been charged with his murder.

The 61-year-old, of Rothwell Street, appeared before Liverpool Magistrates' Court this morning, Thursday, in order to face this count. Appearing in the dock wearing glasses and a grey prison issue tracksuit, she spoke only to confirm her name and date of birth during a brief hearing and was not asked to enter any plea. People who live in the area told the ECHO they received a letter through the door from police on New Year's Day following the incident. The letter appealed for anyone with information or CCTV footage to contact police. One neighbour, who has lived on the street for 17 years, described Steven as 'a lovely man'. She told the ECHO : 'He was a nice man, but we didn't see him often. He didn't go out often, only if he needed stuff from the shop, like bread and milk usually. I'd send the kids to get him stuff and he'd wait for it by the railings. 'He couldn't breathe very well. He only used to come from his house to the railings outside and he'd be out of breath. I wasn't in when the police came knocking. 'When I was leaving the house on New Year's Eve, I saw the police van come flying in. I didn't think anything of it to be honest. It's so sad. He was a lovely man.' The neighbour added she had seen forensics going in and out of the property since New Year's Eve. She said: 'They were looking in bins and everything.' Another resident said she had seen forensic officers 'going in and out' of the property and 'knew something bad had happened'
