Patsy McKie, founder of Mothers Against Violence, dies at 76 after dedicating 25 years to helping young people avoid gun and knife crime.
Patsy McKie, the founder of Mothers Against Violence, has died at the age of 76. McKie set up the charity in 1999 after her son Dorrie was shot dead in Hulme, Manchester . Dorrie was 20 years old and had no involvement with gangs or the police. McKie dedicated the next 25 years to running the charity, providing support and education to young people to help them avoid gun and knife crime. In 2019, McKie received a special recognition award at the M.E.N.'s Pride of Manchester awards.
She was praised for her kindness, unwavering spirit, and commitment to excellence. McKie's death was announced on the Mothers Against Violence website. Manchester council leader Coun Bev Craig paid tribute to McKie, saying she was an outstanding community activist and a firm advocate for a better Manchester. Hulme councillor Lee-Ann Igbon also expressed her condolences, calling McKie an amazing woman.
