John Holt has died after a ten year battle with dementia
Tributes have been paid to the first Mayor of Rossendale , who was ‘passionate’ about his hometown and ‘would do anything for anyone’. John Holt passed away peacefully after a ten year battle with dementia at his home in Bacup on January 21, aged 89.
“It took some convincing for him to take up his role as Mayor. Our family would like to thank Rossendale district nurses and the hospice at home team for the wonderful care dad received.” He was President of Bacup Swimming Club for the last 40 years as well as a life member of Bacup Golf Club. John was a devout member of Central Methodist Church, Bacup where he was a Sunday School teacher and a lay preacher.
John loved music, especially brass bands and he could put together a simple tune on the piano. He married Kathleen in 1962 at St James Parish Church, Haslingden.
