It is getting increasingly difficult to fund this protection now that it is growing more than anything else
– out of poverty. This is because historically the state pension has been woefully low, so recent increases, though very big, could also be seen as righting a wrong.
Expect to see future fudges as politicians seek to be seen to do something about it while mindful that the majority of people who vote want to keep it. And all in the hope that they will not be in power at the time when someone has to properly address it.
