It was a dangerous Sunday morning on the roads in Pierce County as Washington State Patrol said it's investigating three separate wrong-way, DUI crashes that occurred within less than three hours in Tacoma. Troopers shared a photo of a head-on crash on State Route 512 that left two people dead around 2 a.m. near Canyon Road and 31st Street. A wrong-way driver slammed into another car, killing the people inside, according to the WSP.Northbound Interstate 5 was shut down at 56th Street in the morning after a wrong-way driver crashed into an SUV, according to the WSP. That suspect was arrested for a DUI.
A few minutes later, another car driving past the wreck hit one of the victims from that initial crash, WSP said. That person was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover, troopers added.The third crash shut down a stretch of I-705. The WSP said a wrong-way driver hit another car. A passenger in the other vehicle was hurt but is expected to be OK, officials said. The driver who caused the wreck was arrested for DUI and vehicular assault.
