The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting the powerful system to cross into the Northern Territory from the morning, bringing damaging winds and heavy rainfall.

BOM NT senior forecaster Billy Lynch said the system was expected to have dropped below cyclone strength by the time it reached the NT, but would still be at tropical low intensity.It it likely to bring strong weather, with both a severe weather warning and flood watch current this morning. Heavy rain is expected, inlcuding totals of 50 to 100 millimetres "in just a few hours" closest to the centre, and widespread totals of 30 to 60 millimetres.

Tropical Cyclone Ilsa predicted to reach category 5Tropical Cyclone Ilsa is predicted to reach category 5 before it hits the coast of Western Australia, according to new data from the Bureau of Meteorology. “Residents living between Bidyadanga and De Grey, which is between Broome in Port Headland, have been told to find shelter or evacuate their homes now,” said Sky News Reporter Crystal Wu. If the cyclone reaches category 5, winds could be recorded up to 285 km/h. “People living near Broome and Port Headland have already been told to clean up outside their backyards as it is the debris flying around that can potentially be very damaging.”
