Donald Trump has unveiled a billion-dollar underground construction project beneath the White House

US President Donald Trump has revealed his proposals for a billion-dollar ballroom beneath the White House, sparking suggestions that he has no plans to ever leave the premises.

On Tuesday the American leader provided journalists with a look at developments on the lavish ballroom, explaining that "the ballroom is really a shield and protecting all of the things that are built here". Trump disclosed that the construction includes a military hospital and conference facilities, with the structure descending roughly six storeys below ground level, reports the Express.

"It's all knit together. Between the drone proofing, the missile proofing and the drone capacity... it also has great sniper capacity," he said. The bold scheme has prompted several observers to suggest that Trump is not planning to step down from office. Democratic Strategist Michelle Kinney posted on X: "It's not a ballroom.

It's a bunker. He's not leaving.

" A second X user wrote: "I'm starting to become convinced that Trump's monomaniacal obsession with the ballroom/bunker is because he plans on barricading himself inside the bunker when his term is up. " Another posted: "Trump is turning the White House into Mar-a-Lago 2.0 and he has no intention of ever leaving. It's why Republicans are trying so hard to stop our votes.

" A fourth said: "Trump thinks he's never leaving. He's planning a bunker on U.S. tax payer money.

" Trump has maintained the ballroom is wholly financed by donors. However, the White House ballroom scheme hit a stumbling block mere days earlier, when a Senate parliamentarian determined that Republicans couldn't incorporate a clause in legislation that would divert $1 billion of public funds towards security enhancements for the venture.

The funding measure was inserted by Senate Republicans into a $72 billion spending package for the Department of Homeland Security, following appeals from GOP representatives who claimed the Secret Service had requested the money. If the clause had stayed in place, it would have required merely a simple majority to succeed.

Nevertheless, Elizabeth MacDonough, the impartial parliamentarian, concluded that the funding measure violated budget reconciliation regulations and would need to be reworked or secure a 60-vote majority. Republicans have subsequently signalled they are endeavouring to modify their proposal.
