Former President Donald Trump warned Russia of severe economic consequences if President Vladimir Putin doesn't quickly end the war in Ukraine. Trump stated on his social media platform, Truth Social, that he would impose high taxes, tariffs, and sanctions on Russian goods if a 'deal' wasn't reached soon. He also reiterated his past claims that the war would not have happened if he were still in office.
Donald Trump warned he would impose severe economic consequences on Russia if President Vladimir Putin did not swiftly end the war in Ukraine . In a message on social media, Trump stated, 'we can do it the easy way, or the hard way.' This was the latest in a series of critical remarks Trump has made about Putin , whom he accused this week of 'destroying Russia ' following the country's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
'If we don't make a 'deal,' and soon, I have no other choice but to put high levels of Taxes, Tariffs, and Sanctions on anything being sold by Russia to the United States, and various other participating countries,' Trump wrote. 'Let's get this war, which never would have started if I were President, over with!' he added on Wednesday (Thursday AEDT). However, he failed to meet his own self-imposed deadline of ending the conflict within 24 hours of taking office.Trump insisted that he didn't intend to harm Russia, stating, 'I'm not looking to hurt Russia. I love the Russian people, and always had a very good relationship with President Putin.' Just hours after his inauguration on Monday, Trump had urged Putin to engage in negotiations with the Ukrainians. The Russian military has suffered significant losses, with Western experts estimating that 700,000 troops have been killed or injured. 'I think Russia is going to be in big trouble. You take a look at their economy. You take a look at their inflation in Russia,' Trump commented, referring to price increases approaching 10 percent. He also vaguely alluded to the devastating casualties inflicted upon Russia in a war now approaching its fourth year. 'He's not doing so well. I mean, he's grinding it out… it's not making him look very good… I think he would be well off to end that war.
