Expect to pay more in tuition if you or your child attends any of the University of Alabama campuses.
That hike in tuition was approved Friday by the University of Alabama Board of Trustees during its full board meeting. The vote was unanimous.
Tuition rates will rise by as much as 4%. Increases were frozen for several years starting during the COVID pandemic. Board members felt the increase was necessary to continue what they term ‘academic excellence,’ stability and managing the costs of running campus such as insurance, technology and personnel.
The new rates take effect this fall at all UA campuses. The increases differ depending on the campus and whether the student is in-state or out-of-state. “To ensure we can continue to attract the best and brightest faculty and staff, we must pay market value competitive salaries. Along side that we are also facing rising costs related to our share of the mandatory state retirement plan and other employee benefits and above all else we must continue to support students,” said Dr. Dana Keith, University of Alabama System Vice President of Finance and Administration.
