Selman Turk was imprisoned after being found to have committed several offences of contempt of court, following a row with fellow Turkish national Nebahat Isbilen.

A Turkish businessman jailed for 12 months following a High Court dispute which previously involved the Duke of York and his ex-wife Sarah, Duchess of York, has had his sentence suspended at the Court of Appeal.

Lawyers for Ms Isbilen previously told the court in London that tens of millions of her funds had been misappropriated, with Mr Turk then failing to explain where the money had gone. Mr Turk had agreed to help Ms Isbilen move millions of pounds worth of assets out of Turkey after her husband became a political prisoner, but she alleged he misappropriated funds worth around £40 million, the High Court previously heardBarristers for Ms Isbilen applied for him to be sent to prison, with the court told in November and December last year that Mr Turk had advanced 'claims in deceit'.

And in a ruling on Wednesday, Lord Justice Lewison said he would suspend Mr Turk's prison sentence for three months. Earlier court documents that emerged during the case alleged that the Duke and Duchess of York were paid 'substantial sums' by Mr Turk with Ms Isbilen's money This included a payment of 750,000 US dollars which was allegedly for 'assistance' in getting Ms Isbilen a new passport in late 2019.
