Mr Erdoğan said hurrying to announce election results while the counting goes on would mean stealing people's will, while challenger Kemal Mr Kılıçdaroğlu warned election authorities to log all nationwide results. Mr Kılıçdaroğlu said separately on Twitter: "We will not sleep tonight" as he warned that all ballots should be included in the count.Citing figures from state-owned agency Anadolu, Turkish media said that with almost 75 per cent of ballot boxes counted, Mr Erdoğan was leading with 51 per cent of the vote and Mr Kılıçdaroğlu on 43 per cent.
Those figures were close to what Ankara's opposition mayor Mansur Yavas said was a count by his party, which suggested Mr Kılıçdaroğlu was ahead with 47.42 per cent, while Mr Erdoğan had 46.48 per cent.Opinion polls before the election had given Mr Kılıçdaroğlu, who heads a six-party alliance, a slight lead with two polls on Friday showing him above the 50 per cent threshold needed to win outright.
