For many kids the first day of school just marks a new year with new teachers but for those that went to Eielson, the new year means almost new everything.
FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Start of the new year often means returning to the same school, but for those that attended Ben Eielson Jr/Sr High School that will not be the case.
,” said Dr. Luke Meinert, the superintendent of the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District. “We scheduled three days of tours for our students to go over to North Pole High,” said Bruce Bell, the former principal of BEHS. “We had their counselors come over here and meet the parents and their students individually in our school.” Students were also able to attend open houses at North Pole Middle School and North Pole High School .
That has included creating new bus routes and moving staff to new schools. While the transition is said to be both saddening and exciting - the transfer of some former Eielson staff to schools in North Pole may help. Those staff transfers have also helped with transferring much needed materials. “Because I am taking the position as band and orchestra director at North Pole High School, all the equipment at Eielson that I want to take with me can come with me,” Kauffman explained. Not only will this help former Ravens but it’s also much need for the Patriots.
