Glynn Purnell has apologised to customers after closing his Purnell's restaurant after 17 years
Nearly £40,000 is owed to hundreds of customers following the closure of Purnell's restaurant - owned by Michelin-starred chef Glynn Purnell. The decision to shut down the Birmingham-based eatery after 17 years has left 246 customers trying to reclaim money they spent on unused vouchers.
Among them is Glynn Purnell himself, who is owed a total of £30,766.21 according to the document. Mr Purnell is also listed as a company creditor alongside suppliers, with a total debt of £60,610.75. Other creditors include pest control, wine and ingredients firms, and a company supplying fine truffles, reports the Mirror.
They were referred back to their bank to attempt to obtain a refund, but there's no guarantee they will get one. Another customer reported being told by their bank that it's 'unlikely' they will receive any cash back for their loss. "We have been advised that refunds can also be requested via customers own banks and credit card companies. I can only apologise for this difficult situation."
