Police have spoken about the dramatic scenes near a church in Belfield in Sydney’s southwest yesterday. Read more about what happened here:

Two men have been arrested and charged following violent protests outside a church in Belfield.

Police say the riot squad and operational support officers were called in to disperse the crowd, which had gathered outside St Michael's Church in Belfield at about 5pm on Tuesday. A glass bottle struck a male constable who was taken to Canterbury Hospital in a stable condition with an injured hand, while a 38-year-old man was pushed to the ground and assaulted.

"They can protest on the footpath but not blocking roads and actually blocking access to the church," he said. A "Parental Rights" bill he once proposed would have banned teachers from discussing "the ideology of gender fluidity to children in schools" and prevented schools from supporting transgender students without parental consent."I would love to see a campaign where there are no scenes, where people can get the views out to the people of NSW to make their calls," he said on Nine's Today show.
