Traffic on the A1 southbound carriageway was disrupted for several hours after a two-vehicle collision in the Hillsborough Road area. Two people sustained injuries and were transported to the Royal Victoria Hospital.
Two people were transported to the hospital following a collision on a busy Northern Ireland roadway. Emergency services responded to the scene at approximately 12:36 pm on Thursday, February 13th, after receiving reports of a two-vehicle crash in the Hillsborough Road area. The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service dispatched two emergency ambulance crews, one rapid response paramedic, and the Hazardous Area Response Team to the incident.
After initial assessment and treatment at the scene, two patients were taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital by ambulance. Trafficwatch NI confirmed that both lanes of the A1 southbound carriageway had reopened between Hillsborough and Dromore following the earlier collision. However, they warned of potential knock-on delays as traffic returned to normal. A spokesperson for the organization stated, 'Both lanes of the A1 southbound carriageway have just been reopened between Hillsborough and Dromore following an earlier two vehicle road traffic collision. Still some knock on delays as traffic returns to normal.' Police advised motorists of 'long delays' for southbound traffic and recommended seeking alternative routes. Traffic maps indicated a significant buildup of congestion near the southbound services at Hillsborough and the Sprucefield roundabout exit onto the dual carriageway. A PSNI spokesperson said, 'Both lanes of the A1 southbound carriageway are currently closed between Hillsborough and Dromore following a two vehicle road traffic collision. There are long delays for southbound traffic and motorists are asked to seek an alternative route if possible.'
