Houses evacuated after sinkhole opens up on residential road
A 6ft by 4ft cavern almost swallowed driveways of two adjoining properties in Grays, Essex.Stricken Rectory Road was closed as a precautionary measure, Thurrock council said.
The fire service said it was working with the council, police and utility companies "to make the scene safe". A spokesperson for Essex Fire Brigade said they were called to the incident at 11.40am on Thursday after a gas main was exposed.
