Jacob Johnson, 21, and Eduardo Hernandez Zambrano,19, were killed when Johnson's car crashed into a tractor-trailer parked along Interstate 5 near Oceanside, officials said

Authorities have publicly identified two U.S. Marines who were killed last week in a car crash on Interstate 5 in the Camp Pendleton area. The accident occurred shortly before 9 p.m. Thursday, when Jacob Johnson, 21, lost control of the 2016 Hyundai sedan he was driving on the southbound side of the freeway near Cocklerburr Road, according to the county Medical Examiner's Office.

The vehicle veered off the roadway and struck a tractor-trailer parked alongside it, fatally injuring Johnson and his front-seat passenger, 19-year-old Eduardo Hernandez Zambrano, the office said. Both men died at the scene. Johnson was from Pacoima, and Hernandez Zambrano was from Florida, the California Highway Patrol said. Johnson was a corporal and Hernandez Zambrano was a lance corporal; both were assigned to the 1st Marine Logistics Group at Pendleton, a unit spokesperson said.
