Batavia, N.Y. — Two people were arrested following the death of a Genesee County Sheriff’s Office sergeant early Sunday.

Elmore, 33, Batavia, and Lyndsey Jean Wilcox, 39, Batavia, were alleged to have caused serious injury to Genesee County Sheriff's Office Sergeant Thomas Sanfratello, 54, who died during an altercation with the pair early Sunday, March 10, 2024, at Batavia Downs.

Michael Elmore, 33, of Batavia, and Lyndsey Wilcox, 39, of Batavia, were arrested after Sgt. Thomas Sanfratello became unresponsive during an incident involving the pair and died.According to police, Sanfratello, 54, a 32-year veteran of the force, was working on a special assignment around 12:45 a.m. when he and Batavia Downs staff were notified of an altercation.

When Sanfratello attempted to arrest Wilcox, Elmore allegedly became physically combative with him and the Batavia Downs staff. Sanfratello tried to use his Taser on Elmore, but Elmore continued to attack him. Sanfratello became unresponsive during the altercation. CPR was started immediately, but he was pronounced deceased by the Genesee County coroner.
