One of the officers was taken to hospital following alleged assault in Stockport
Two police officers were injured while arresting a suspected thief in Stockport. One of the officers was taken to hospital with cuts following the alleged assault.
It came after a 'wanted male' was spotted by security officers for Stockport Homes in the Victoria Park area on Monday morning. Neighbourhood police were called, but were then injured while detaining the suspect. In a statement on Facebook GMP Stockport said: "Unfortunately, two officers were injured by this male in his attempts to evade arrest, one of which resulted in hospital treatment for minor cuts." The man was arrested on suspicion of assaulting emergency workers, theft and recall to prison.
PC Lewis Charnley, neighbourhood beat officer for Shaw Heath, said: "My colleagues and I responded to the sighting of a wanted male, despite his successful arrest two of my colleagues were injured by him. Thankfully neither have sustained serious injury however, I feel this again highlights the risks that officers take daily to keep their communities safe.
"The male has now been taken into police custody where he will be interviewed by specialist officers”.
