Violence erupted following concerns over fireworks
'Unacceptable' large-scale violence erupted on the streets of Bolton moments after police were called about fireworks. Two men have been taken to hospital after suffering serious injuries during a brawl in the Halliwell area in the early hours of this morning .
Greater Manchester Police says it initially responded to calls at around 1am in connection with fireworks being set off in the Halliwell Road area. The force says it then received calls about fights that had broken out in the same area. Four men - aged 25, 27, 31 and 35 - have all been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder. They remain in custody for questioning this afternoon.Officers have been working with crime scene investigators on four scenes at Maria Street/Gladstone Street, Madeley Gardens, Bride Street and Weymouth Street. GMP says all four should be closed today.
Detective Inspector Stuart Woodhead, of GMP's Bolton division, said: "What appeared to start as anti-social behaviour in relation to fireworks, quickly descended into large-scale violet disorder, which is completely unacceptable on the streets of Bolton. We would be interested in speaking with anyone who may have witnessed the incident and would ask that they contact us via 101, the CID office directly on 0161 85 65757 or via the Live Chat function on our website, www.gmp.police.uk.
