Walkers were rescued from High Stile after straying from the indistinct path
On Friday , the walkers had spent the day along the fells, but ended up taking longer than they expected. On a cloudless night, the pair found themselves on steep, technical ground and started to descend the front of High Stile.
This was after the walkers strayed from the indistinct path in the area, causing them to get in to some trouble. As time progressed, they became cold, tired and walked and had to call 999 for Mountain Rescue assistance.Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team quickly found the walkers, one of which became 'quickly exhausted' and was exhibiting early stages of hypothermia. As a result of this, the rescue team enlisted help from HM Coastguard Helicopter 936.
The potentially long, treacherous stretcher extraction was made a lot easier with the coastguard's help and the walkers were soon taken to safety. Some 'excellent flying' brought the exhausted casualty away from the scene and to safety. Volunteers from the mountain rescue team brought the other casualty back down to the valley on foot. The pair were then reunited at Gatesgarth Farm.
