The former Footballer of the Year feels Derry are the in the mix for All-Ireland glory with Dublin and Kerry, but says much can change between now at the end of July

Tyrone legend Sean Cavanagh feels that overconfidence could be Derry’s major hurdle as they begin their quest for a third successive Ulster title as well as challenging for the Sam Maguire later this summer.

“Mickey has done incredibly well to get that success in the McKenna Cup and League, and Derry are on that crest of a wave now. “As a Tyrone man looking on, I would have sometimes said that would have been a weakness of a Dublin, a Kerry, or a Derry back in the day when things were going very well. He added: “A person like Jim McGuinness, with a team like Donegal, is a master of exposing any over confidence, or maybe breaking a system you think is unbreakable.

As Division One champions, Derry are guaranteed to the involved in the All-Ireland SFC group stages later in the summer - although Mickey Harte’s mantra is always to try and win every competition. “It’s a good thing when it’s good, but ultimately I know there’s a few times we fell foul of not realising the dangers that were out there.
