The Maersk Saltoro, involved in a collision with Baltimore's Key Bridge last month, is being investigated by federal authorities. The Justice Department alleges that the ship's owners and operators, Grace Ocean Private Ltd. and Synergy Marine Group, recklessly ignored electrical problems leading to the crash.
In statements, spokespeople for the FBI and the U.S. Attorney's Office in Maryland confirmed that authorities boarded the Maersk Saltoro. The ship is managed by Synergy Marine Group.
The Dali cargo ship that collided into the Key Bridge in Baltimore has been refloated and is on its way back to the port Monday morning. In its lawsuit, the Justice Department argued that vessel owners and operators need to be “deterred from engaging in such reckless and exceedingly harmful behavior."
