American officials are promising to push back hard against Iran if groups supported by the country continue attacks on American military personnel overseas. All
FILE - The al-Tanf military outpost in southern Syria is seen on Oct. 22, 2018. Two U.S. officials told The Associated Press that the al-Tanf garrison, where U.S. troops have maintained a presence to train forces as part of a broad campaign against the Islamic State group, was attacked by drones on Thursday, Oct. 19, 2023. One official said one drone was shot down, but another caused minor injuries.
Iran’s exact role in the Israeli-Hamas war is still being determined but many see them either as participants or at the very least, proponents and now taking advantage of the chaos to go after Americans too.to help deter more attacks on Americans, critics wonder if the administration has done enough to keep Iran in check, pointing to Biden recently unfreezing $6 billion in Iranian assets, although that’s since been blocked again.
“Enforce the sanctions. They shouldn’t be able to sell oil. Number 2, stop giving them money–make sure the 6 billion dollars never gets there. And number three, what’s the next step it’s going to take? Do we have to destroy all their oil fields, do we have to destroy their nuclear facilities," Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., told The National Desk on Wednesday.
New reports indicate there are “red lights flashing everywhere” but analysts say Iran is walking a tightrope--aware if it pushes too hard or begins a wider war it could trigger a direct fight with Israel and the United States., which has strengthened its ties with Iran but both nations, already facing global sanctions, can only go so far or risk more economic turmoil.
