University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) has received approval to change its name to the University of Lancashire, despite opposition from Lancaster University over potential confusion. The OfS (Office for Students) concluded that the name change is unlikely to cause significant harm.

However, they added ‘most instances of potential confusion were unlikely to lead to any material harm or detriment’.
