Since his UFC debut in 2021, Pereira has quickly transformed into one of the promotion's biggest stars, becoming a two-division champion in a record-low seven fights. Although Ankalaev controlled parts of the action in the grappling exchanges, it was instead his striking and pressure that edged the fight, with Pereira unable to stamp his authority on the contest.
By the end of the first round, Ankalaev was sporting redness on his calf, but he found success in the second round with some punch combinations, before rocking Pereira with a straight left before the bell. Pereira landed leg kicks and a high kick, before a jab stunned Ankalaev, but the Russian finished the fight controlling the action against the cage once more.
"I knew it would be a war. He put some pressure in the second round, but putting me up against the cage, he didn't really do anything," said Pereira.
