🔴 Breaking: The UK and EU will announce a Brexit deal on Monday to change the Northern Ireland Protocol so that fewer checks are needed on goods crossing the Irish Sea
The UK and EU will announce a Brexit deal on Monday to change the Northern Ireland Protocol so that fewer checks are needed on goods crossing the Irish Sea.
European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen will travel to the UK on Monday for a meeting with Rishi Sunak after months of negotiations between their teams. The pair said in a joint statement on Sunday afternoon: “Today, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Rishi Sunak agreed to continue their work in person towards shared, practical solutions for the range of complex challenges around the Protocol on Ireland and Northern Ireland. President von der Leyen will therefore meet with the Prime Minister in the UK tomorrow.
The Protocol was devised as a way of avoiding a hard border on the island of Ireland by keeping Northern Ireland in the EU’s customs territory and single market.
