A 30-hour Arctic weather event is expected to blanket the UK in snow, with potential snowfall rates of up to 15cm per hour. The GFS weather model predicts snow will first hit North Wales and Northwest England on January 24, spreading southward and eastward by midday. A second, more severe snow front is expected to impact northern England and Scotland on January 25. The Met Office warns that snow and ice remain possible towards the end of the month, with a chance of Arctic conditions in early February.

Weather modelling maps suggest the UK may soon be enveloped in snow, with flurries reaching up to 15cm per hour during a predicted 30-hour Arctic weather event. The GFS weather model anticipates snow first appearing in North Wales and the north-west of England on January 24. By midday, the snowstorm is expected to spread southward and eastward, covering regions from Scotland to the south coast of England.

WXCharts data indicates snowfall rates of approximately 3cm per hour in North Wales and the north-east of England. Conversely, snowfall across southern-central England, the Midlands, and southern Scotland is projected to be less intense. On January 25, weather maps forecast a second, more severe snow front impacting northern England and nearly the entirety of Scotland by 6pm. This implies that individuals across the entire 1,000km length of the country could experience snowfall over this prolonged 30-hour period. WXCharts data reveals the potential for snow to fall at an astonishing rate of approximately 15cm per hour in the Scottish Highlands and rural areas of northern England on January 25. Concurrently, torrential rain is predicted to sweep across Wales, the Midlands, and southern England, potentially erasing any accumulated snow on the ground by January 24, according to reports from the Mirror. The Met Office has issued warnings that 'snow' and 'ice' remain possible towards the end of the month, with a possibility of Arctic conditions arriving in early February. In its latest extended forecast, spanning January 27 to February 10, the national weather agency states: 'A dominant flow from the Atlantic appears likely to produce an unsettled, milder, and windier than average period.' This is anticipated to bring rain and strong winds to most parts of the UK, with the north and west likely experiencing the highest rainfall and wind speeds. However, the forecast also acknowledges that brief colder spells could still occur, bringing frost, ice, and snow in the aftermath of any deep low-pressure systems
