Following a brief period of milder weather, the UK is facing another potential onslaught of winter weather, with forecasts predicting a return of snow and freezing temperatures. WXCharts data and weather experts are warning of widespread snowfall, particularly in Scotland and Northern Ireland, with a chance of snow across northern England, Wales, and the southwest. The Met Office has also issued warnings of potential 'ice and snow' towards the end of January and start of February.
The UK is poised for another potential winter storm as new weather forecasts predict a fresh wave of cold weather and snowfall. Following last week's subzero temperatures that brought snow to many parts of the country, temperatures have risen today. However, advanced weather maps suggest a return of wintry conditions.
WXCharts data predicts snowfall in Scotland next Monday, with a 20% to 25% chance of snow in Northern Ireland and a smaller 10% to 20% likelihood across northern England, Wales, and the southwest. There's also a more than 50% chance of snow over the Scottish Highlands on January 25, while around a 20% risk looms over Northern Ireland, Wales, and northern England on the same date. James Madden from Exacta Weather is also forecasting another cold snap next week following a 'temporary' phase of milder weather. He warned that this could be the 'biggest sting' yet, stating: 'We will see the cold and snow returning with a vengeance towards the end of next week and into late January and early February due to long-range and expected occurrences in the upper atmosphere that will effectively begin to drive this weather across our shores for the biggest sting of this winter to date in terms of cold and widespread snow for many parts of the UK and Ireland.' Following the Met Office's warning of potential 'ice and snow' towards the end of January and start of February, the long-range forecast for Monday 27 January to Monday 10 February suggests an unsettled period. The forecast reads: 'A dominant flow from the Atlantic looks likely to produce an unsettled, milder and windier than average period. 'This is likely to result in areas of rain and periods of stronger winds affecting most if not all parts of the UK at times, though with the wettest and windiest weather probably occurring towards the north and west. However, the potential for brief colder spells with associated frost, ice and snow remains, following any deep lows crossing the region.' Meanwhile, temperatures are set to rise significantly this week, melting much of the remaining ice and snow from last week's cold snap, reports the Mirror. Daytime temperatures of 11C and 12C are expected in Northern Ireland and Scotland on Monday and Tuesday, while northern England could see highs of 9C. Southern regions will remain cooler, with temperatures between 5C and 8C. Overnight temperatures are also predicted to be warmer, hovering around 9C in some northern areas
