A new study reveals that Brits are consuming over 12 million litres of coffee daily, with 54% admitting they can't function properly without their morning caffeine fix. The research, commissioned by Nespresso, highlights the nation's love affair with coffee, especially during the winter months.
People in the Uk now drink more than 12 million litres of coffee as they get ready for the day and travel to work. A study found there are more than 53million mugs consumed across the nation in the early hours of the day. As a result, 54 per cent of coffee drinkers can’t function properly without their morning brew, while 47 per cent wouldn’t dream of leaving the house for work without one in hand.
The research was commissioned by Nespresso, to mark the launch of its new pods in collaboration with Oatly, which are being given away to commuters in London Victoria today, Waterloo, on Friday 14 February and Manchester, Piccadilly, on Monday 17 February between 7am and 12pm. They were joined by stars of The Traitors, Linda Rands and Minah Shannon, who served up hot coffees to those faithful to the oat drink. 43 per cent of people say they feel energised after their first cup, while 37 per cent say it helps them focus.
During the winter months, coffee drinkers become even more reliant on their caffeine fix, with 64 per cent craving the warmth and comfort it brings. The research, conducted via OnePoll, also revealed that 41 per cent like to experiment with their morning brew, trying different flavour combinations and milk alternatives.
Anna Lundstrom, CEO of Nespresso UK&I, said: “The UK coffee scene is constantly evolving, with new trends and recipes shaping the way we enjoy our daily cups. More than half of UK coffee shop visitors now choose oat-based coffees, with favourites like Oat Lattes, Cappuccinos, and Flat Whites growing in popularity year after year.”
