Dozens of wildfires are blazing across Portugal
The UK Foreign Office has issued a travel warning for Portugal as wildfires rage across the country. A ‘state of alert’ has been declared by the Portuguese government as thousands of firefighters tackle blazes. Soaring temperatures and baking conditions have resulted in the fires breaking out with temperatures exceeding 30C over the weekend. As of Tuesday morning the total number of fatalities due to the fires stands at four, according to local news agency Lusa .
Manchester Airport and Jet2 issue warning to people travelling this weekend In an update for its travel advice page for Portugal, the Foreign Office said: “There are currently a significant number of forest fires burning in several parts of Portugal. The Portuguese government has declared a state of Alert until 11:59pm on Thursday 19 September. Access to forests and activities in rural areas may be restricted. Roads may be closed due to smoke and ash.
