A new study has found that the number of people dying from the heat in the UK is expected to soar more than sixfold over the next century, with the total number of UK heat-related deaths predicted to be around 7,931 per year.
If global temperatures continue to rise, heat-related deaths in the UK could surge more than sixfold by the end of the century.

Data shows the bulk of cold-related deaths currently occur in Eastern Europe and the Baltic states, with the smallest figures reported in Central and parts of Southern Europe. The highest incidences of heat-related mortality are found notably in Croatia and the far south of the continent, while the lowest rates are seen in the UK and Scandinavian countries, as per the report.
