WARNING GRAPHIC IMAGES: Tom Bush has issued a warning after his nightmare on holiday

A British man has issued a warning to holidaymakers heading to Ibiza after a severe reaction to a spider bite resulted in him having parts of his fingers amputated.

"I woke up at 4am and it felt like my hand was on fire. I really started to panic, my hand was really swollen and blue. I woke my friends up and they were nervous and panicked too and we went to the pharmacist as soon as it opened and they were like, 'you need to get to a hospital straight away.' According to the local news outlet Diario de Ibiza, the woman encountered the bite this May, which left her leg red and swollen. It was only after a fever overwhelmed her that she sought medical advice eventually requiring a round of antibiotics to address the infection.

Despite the harrowing ordeal, Tom remains positive about the destination and hopes others won't be dissuaded from visiting. He cautions travellers to be vigilant with their health whilst abroad, and not to hesitate seeking medical help if needed. HealthplanSpain.com states that there are six types of venomous spiders in Spain, with the Black Widow and Recluse variants being the main ones to watch out for. The site also notes that spider bites in Spain are rare and there are no recorded deaths from them.

"Additionally, a clean space is typically an insect-free space. Ensure that any lodging you're staying in is well maintained and cleaned. Don't stay somewhere that has food residue and crumbs all over the place. These kinds of messes attract insects and their predators, which includes spiders.
