The average consumer bill in England and Wales is set to rise by 40 per cent between now and 2030
UK households are set to pay higher prices for water after companies requested to increase bills by more than their original proposals, according to new data released by Ofwat.
However, some of the increases are intended to meet "changes to the proposed rate of return for investors". The latest demands come amid public and political uproar over sewage spills in the privatised water industry, while company investors receive dividends and top executives are awarded bonuses. A recent performance report by Ofwat revealed a mere 2 per cent reduction in pollution since 2019, despite firms pledging to cut it by 30 per cent.
