UK households are rushing to cancel their BBC TV Licence and escape a £174 charge under new rules proposed by the Labour Party government.
From April 2024 the TV Licence, which is used to fund BBC TV services as well as some other public service functions like Welsh channel S4C, has been set at £169.50 per year, or about £14 a month on Direct Debit, and next year it will rise to £174.50, BirminghamLive reports. "People already pay to use these services." A third added: "I will cancel my Netflix account immediately. I don't pay for a licence already as I don't watch live broadcast." And another typed: "Why should I pay a fee to NOT watch your services when I'm already paying for the subscriptions?"
