The UK government's Household Support Fund will continue until 2025, offering financial assistance to vulnerable households struggling with essential expenses.

UK households are in line for a financial boost this January, with up to £500 available from the cost of living payments aimed to help cover food, energy bills, and other critical needs. The Household Support Fund is set to continue until 2025, following its extension. Distributed by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), the support sees funds sent to local councils which then allocate them based on individual circumstances and at their discretion.

With varying criteria across different authorities, the amount distributed varies. For example, residents of Solihull could receive £147 towards energy bills or up to £500 in direct debt relief to support utility bill payments. In London, Camden Council offers payments up to £500 per household plus supermarket shopping vouchers of up to £30 for each eligible child. In contrast, Leeds Council provides £40 payments, rising to £150 for pensioners not receiving Winter Fuel Payments. Calderdale is offering £100 payments to households with either children or disabled members. Support is not limited to benefit claimants—according to the government's website, 'Funding is aimed at anyone who's vulnerable or cannot pay for essentials. You do not have to be getting benefits to get help from your local council.', reports the Express . Furthermore, receiving aid from the fund won't impact any existing benefit entitlements. The site confirms, 'If you get benefits, they will not be affected if you get a payment from a Household Support Fund scheme. Councils decide how to run their schemes. There may be differences in eligibility criteria, if or how you need to apply, who money is given to.' 'For example, some councils share out money through local charities and community groups and some limit household applications to one per year.' Check here to see if you can apply before the March 31 deadline
