Inflation did not fall in the year to September as many observers expected

Speaking to GB News on Wednesday, Treasury minister Andrew Griffith said the Government had always admitted that halving inflation “would be challenging”, but said the latest figures were “broadly in line with expectations”. Mr Griffith continued: “Of course, in the UK we protected households to a larger extent than in the US. We helped people more with their energy bills.
Core inflation – which measures inflation without food and energy prices – dropped from 6.2 to 6.1 per cent, according to the figures released on Wednesday.
