Ministers revealed the security services are 'on watch' for extremists returning, acknowledging it is a 'matter of great concern'.
The UK is on alert for jihadis coming from Syria today after the chaotic collapse of the Assad regime.
In a round of broadcast interviews this morning, Home Office minister Angela Eagle was asked about the prospect of jihadists who are British citizens returning to the UK. Bashar Assad escaped by private jet with his British-born wife Asma and their children as the rebels closed in on Damascus at the weekend
Pressed on whether those who had already been granted asylum could stay, Dame Angela said the government will 'facilitate' returns. He suggested the flow of joyful Syrian refugees returning home 'could quickly become a flow back out' if the revolution backfired.
