The fines make up part of a government initiative to improve attendance in British schools
Parents who take their children out of school during term time could face heftier fines as part of a crackdown on unauthorised absences. The penalties, which have seen an increase since they were introduced in 2013, will now be £20 more per day. This increase is a component of the Government's latest push to boost school attendance across Britain.
Earlier this year, when these stringent measures were unveiled, the Department for Education commented: 'Every moment in school counts and days missed add up quickly. Evidence shows that pupils who have good attendance enjoy better wellbeing and school performance than those who don't.' 'There are only a few circumstances where a child is allowed to miss school, such as illness or where the school has given permission because of an exceptional circumstance.
