US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky attend the meeting of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group in Germany on Friday Whitehall pledged 650 short-range Martlet missiles that can be used for air defence ahead of the 24th meeting of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group.
“It is crucial that all the weapons from the already announced support packages finally reach the combat brigades,” he said. “We also need strong long-range decisions from our partners to bring closer the just peace we are striving for.” The US position was a case of “conflict between Ukraine’s self-defence needs and escalation management,” Mr Bielieskov added, suggesting the “result is more Ukrainian suffering and the war dragging on to the advantage of Putin with more more sceptics who can argue ‘why should we support a resultless war effort?’”
“The ability to strike deeper into Russia has been highlighted by Ukraine as something that is vitally needed in order for them to continue to defend themselves,” he said. “The value of these deep strikes has been proved already, such as disrupting Russia’s offensive into theearlier this year, which was impossible until US restrictions were relaxed and then achieved spectacular results in a short time once they were.
