Police are aware of at least 100 far-right protests planned tonight, with thousands of specialist officers braced to respond. Meanwhile, three rioters have been jailed, including one who punched an officer in Southport, the scene of the killings that kickstarted riots more than a week ago.
The head of the Association of Convenience Stores has told Sky News its members must remain vigilant and cautious in the face of continued riots across the UK.Retailers have suffered property damage and looting since violent disorder broke out last week after the Southport stabbing attack.
'We would always urge retailers to on the side of caution, to make sure that they and their colleagues are safe,' James Lehman told Sky News.'Of the 70% of convenience stores owned by independent retailers, just under half of them identify themselves as Asian or British Asian.'For those people in particular, the undercurrent of racism that they probably have to live with throughout their lives, this really brings that surface in terms of the level of threat.
