The 2025 Estrella Damm Top 50 Gastropubs ranking has been announced, highlighting the UK's culinary gems. Several North West establishments have secured spots on the prestigious list, showcasing the region's thriving gastropub scene.
A prestigious pub guide has revealed the UK's best gastropubs for 2025. The 2025 Estrella Damm Top 50 Gastropubs ranking was announced at a glittering ceremony at London’s Plaisterers’ Hall, and a number of North West -based pubs have made the cut. The rankings, revealed at the ceremony, include a historic Manchester gastropub. Tucked away in Ancoats, The Edinburgh Castle landed in 16th position. The top place went to The Unruly Pig in Woodbridge, Suffolk.
The Top 50 Gastropubs listing started in 2009 and aims to celebrate and honour the hardworking individuals from across the industry. In December, the list was unveiled in alphabetical order. Here in the North of England, a number of restaurants from across Greater Manchester, Yorkshire, Lancashire and Derbyshire have made the cut. The only nod for Manchester though goes to Edinburgh Castle in Ancoats. Located on Blossom Street in Manchester, the venue dates back to 1811 and has become a favourite amongst locals and even national critics including Jay Rayner. It reopened in 2019 after a major transformation and serves up dishes including lamb shoulder, pork chop and hearty Sunday roasts. Also on the list is the pub famous for its pies that can be found just 90 minutes from Manchester. The Parkers Arms near Clitheroe scooped the top spot in 2023 and this year it has landed in number 4. Famed for its pies, the pub is run by chefs Kathy Smith and Stosi Madi, and stands in a picturesque green in the village of Newton-In-Bowland. It has been climbing up the rankings for several years, scooping second place in 2022, after moving up from 48th place in 2017 when it first entered the top 50 of the annual Gastropub Awards. Meanwhile, in the Peak District, The Pack Horse has also received a nod too. Run by couple Luke Payne (behind the stoves) and Emma Daniels (front-of-house), who took over seven years ago, it started off with all the classics and over time they refined the menu, putting quality produce front and centre. It came in at number 18. Alongside the list, special award winners have also been announced including One to Watch, which saw a number of entries this year. The White Hart in Fyfield has taken home the prize for 2025. Chef of the Year and the Estrella Damm Sustainable Pub of the Year were also announced alongside recognising the Highest New Entry to the list and Highest Climber. The Devonshire Arms in Soho came in second and was the highest new entry.
