The UK’s rail network will not be at full service for at least 13 days throughout December due to a “toxic” combination of engineering works and strikes.dealing with reduced services, cancellations and crowded carriages for monthsThe North of England has been among the hardest hit and on Monday, business leaders wrote to the Government to warn that the rail system in the northunless ministers come to an agreement with train companies over rest day working within days.

And between Friday, 23 December and Tuesday, 3 January, Network Rail is carrying out a £120m programme of engineering works that will affect many parts of the country. The RMT is also bringing in an overtime ban across the railways from 18 December until 2 January, which is likely to cause additional disruption.
