Consumer group Which? has ranked the best motorway services in the UK in 2025
Lengthy journeys across Britain often require a pit stop, but research shows that some motorway service stations far outshine their counterparts. The nation's finest motorway services have been revealed, with the leading location boasting an impressive 85% customer satisfaction rating.
Consumer watchdog Which? has compiled its 2025 rankings of Britain's premier motorway services, assessing nearly 90 stations nationwide. The findings demonstrated that choosing to stop just a junction or two earlier or later could dramatically alter your experience. Assessment criteria encompassed everything from cleanliness, convenience and accessibility through to pricing and the variety and standard of retail outlets available.
Claiming the number one position and defending its title from the previous survey was Gloucester services on the M5 , achieving an 85% customer approval score. Which? noted: 'The three Westmorland sites repeatedly top our survey because they are sparkling clean, have excellent facilities and outdoor spaces that are a pleasure to be in.
' Additional categories evaluated in the study included the variety and standard of food and beverage establishments, the breadth of amenities and the provision and quality of outdoor areas, reports the Express . In second place came Westmorland's Tebay services on the M6, securing a 77% customer satisfaction rating.
While shop and food outlet pricing received 3 out of 5 stars, the facility achieved a perfect 5 out of 5 stars for both its selection and quality of dining options and retail establishments. In a first for the industry, a nationwide brand's service station broke into the top three, with Rugby, by Moto, claiming the position. Located just off the M6, the services garnered a customer satisfaction rating of 75%.
While the prices at its shops and food outlets received a modest 2 out of 5 stars, the facility was awarded a full 5 stars for convenience and accessibility. At the other end of the scale, Bridgwater Services at Junction 24 on the M5 propped up the rankings with a dismal score of 23%. Which? commented: 'To get to Bridgwater Services from the M5, there are two roundabouts to navigate.
'This is your chance. Turn around. You don't deserve this. Nobody deserves Bridgwater.
' Also languishing near the bottom were Leeming Bar services on the A1, with a rating of 26%, and Lancaster services just off the M6, which managed a customer approval rating of just 34%. Gloucester – 85% Tebay – 77% Rugby – 75% Cairn Lodge – 72% Leeds Skelton Lake – 68% Norton Canes - 59% Killington Lake – 58% Annandale Water – 56% Beaconsfield – 56% Donington – 55%
