Rain, blustery winds and thunderstorms are set to batter the UK this week and into the weekend
and strong winds later this week, the Met Office has said., which barrelled across the Atlantic last week, has prompted flash-flood warnings in the north of England and Wales, which will remain in place until 6pm on Wednesday.
The weather agency has said travel by rail, road and ferry may be impacted by the rain on the Scottish west coast, while from 4pm on Wednesday until 3am on Thursday morning, travel is expected to be delayed across East Anglia, London, Kent and the south coast including the Isle of Wight. Forecasters have warned bus and train services could be significantly delayed over the next 24 hours, but the rain is not expected to be as heavy as last weekend, when more than 10,000 lightning strikes were recorded and flash floods reported at Exeter Airport.
“Although we’ve indicated there could be flooding associated with the reasonably high levels of rainfall, that’s not something anticipated to be widespread.”If thunderstorms do indeed take hold across Britain later in the week, the Met Office provides advice on staying safe.Lightning can cause power surges, unplug any non-essential appliances if not already using a surge protector.
