Weather maps have turned purple to show that many cities across the UK are in the firing line for snowfall as an Arctic blast descends on the country on New Year's Day
Brits are preparing for a significant Arctic blast due to hit on New Year's Day, with numerous cities at risk of snow and temperatures dropping as low as -4C. Weather maps from WXCharts, utilising Met Desk data, indicate a large surge of cold air sweeping over the country as we usher in 2025, with maps turning purple to signify the onset of snow in several cities.
Most of Wales and Northern Ireland are expected to be affected by the snowstorm, with intense flurries potentially resulting in snowfall rates of around 5cm per hour. Areas predicted to be blanketed in white on January 1 include Manchester, regions north of the city up to the Lake District, Birmingham, and parts of Newcastle.
Regions between Aberdeen and Inverness in Scotland are expected to experience the worst of the cold snap with lows of -4C recorded on New Year's Day. The Midlands and northeast are predicted to reach their coldest between -1C and -2C, while most southern areas could face minimum temperatures of 0C and -1C, reports the Mirror.
