A Met Office weather map predicts strong winds and rain hitting the north west of the UK, followed by a cold snap over the coming days. Temperatures are expected to drop below average by the end of the week, with ice and wintry showers in higher ground.
A Met Office weather map has revealed that strong winds and rain will hit the north west of the UK, with another cold blast expected to creep in over the coming days. Forecasters predict a band of strong winds and rain from Monday night (February 3rd), and they say that an approaching 'high-pressure system' will lead to cold conditions gripping the UK by the weekend.
Temperatures are expected to drop back to below average by the end of this week, with ice and wintry showers anticipated over higher ground. \New maps released by the Met Office show the band of high pressure moving in across the British Isles as this week progresses, bringing with it a band of wet and windy weather. On Monday night, rain and strong winds are anticipated initially in north western Wales and the north west of England, before reaching eastern England by the early evening on Tuesday. According to forecasters, Tuesday night will bring wintry showers over higher ground in Scotland, with a risk of ice affecting some untreated surfaces. Parts of south west Scotland have also been hit by a new yellow weather warning. \Frank Saunders, Met Office Chief Meteorologist, said: 'It's worth being aware that despite a largely pleasant week ahead, there's a good chance the UK will experience a dip in temperatures at the weekend and into next week. High-pressure is set to move in, bringing along with it easterly winds, low temperatures and an increasing risk of wintry hazards like snow and ice. We'll know more as the week goes on so it's worth keeping up-to-date with the forecast in your area.' As the week progresses, the weather is expected to become drier with clearer skies, but temperatures will be chilly - averaging around 7C between Wednesday and Friday.
