The UK government will conduct a large-scale pandemic response exercise in the autumn, testing its preparedness for another major health crisis. The last such exercise took place nearly a decade ago. Earlier on today, the government gave its response to the first stage of the COVID inquiry - which focused on preparedness.As part of this, Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster Pat McFadden gave some details of when the next wargaming would be.He said the last time the government did a 'full national pandemic response exercise' was almost a decade ago - and the next one will happen 'over a number of days' in the autumn.

'It will be led by senior ministers, will involve thousands of participants, run across all regions and nations of the UK and alongside the health secretary, I have written to all cabinet ministers to ask for their commitment to full participation.'Another emergency alert test on the wayThe national exercise is expected to be held on different days over several months, and will involve thousands of participants across the UK.
