A Cabinet Office advisor has revealed that the UK Government is ‘totally unprepared’ to alert its citizens of an incoming nuclear threat and how to protect themselves.
Ministers haveto introduce an emergency alert system following the outbreak of coronavirus, with Reading involved in a phone alert trial last year.
But the service is still yet to launch, with the official ESA webpage stating it is ‘expected to launch in early 2022’. The comments come after the Ministry of Defence posted a job advert for a ‘nuclear threat reduction’ manager who can help to ‘reduce a range of threats’
