Residents have been urged to follow government guidance
UK holidaymakers in the Canary Islands have been warned of heavy rain and potential thunderstorms today, October 16. The government of the Canary Islands has declared a ‘pre-alert situation’ for La Palma, Tenerife and Lanzarote after Spain ’s national weather agency Aemet issued several yellow weather warnings for the Spanish islands.
It comes as 15mm or more rain is expected to fall in one hour in La Palma; the north, east and southeast of Tenerife and in Lanzarote. Up to 60 mm of rainfall in 12 hours is “likely” in La Palma and Tenerife, with 40mm forecast in Lanzarote.Residents and tourists are urged to follow the government’s guidance for heavy rainfall.
